Why Belong?
The American Postal Workers Union (APWU), represents more than 250, 000 current and former postal employees. The APWU is dedicated to advancing and advocating for the interests of its members and their families. The primary function of the APWU is to negotiate, interpret, and enforce a National Agreement with the Postal Service. The contract establishes wages, and working conditions along with protecting workers rights, such as discipline, violations of seniority, harassment, discrimination, and other management abuse.
The benefits that you currently enjoy: vacation leave, sick leave, health benefits, wage increases, life insurance, cost of living adjustments (COLA), seniority protections, no lay-off protections, work hour guarantees, wash-up time, and overtime, just to name a few. Were not just given to you by the Postal Service, they’re all the result of the APWU negotiating hard for them on your behalf.
Membership in the APWU gives you a voice in determining your future. Members have the right to participate in local meetings, vote for local and national officers, and a vote on the ratification of a new National Agreement. Membership also makes you eligible to enroll in the APWU Health Plan, which provides excellent comprehensive coverage at a very reasonable cost.
A union is only as strong as its members. That is why I urge you to join the APWU and become one of the many that have already stepped up and joined. Management views all non-members as being on their side and they use this to divide us. So, join the APWU and unite with your fellow Sisters and Brothers and become a part of the solution. Or remain on the outside and be a part of the problem.
